“Bell Helicopter is innovating at the limits of vertical flight and challenging the traditional notion of aviation to solve real-world problems,” said Bell Helicopter’s president and CEO Mitch Snyder. “The future of urban air taxi is closer than many people realize. We believe in the positive impact our design will have on addressing transportation concerns in cities worldwide.”

Every meal triggers inflammation

When we eat, we do not just take in nutrients – we also consume a significant quantity of bacteria. The body is faced with the challenge of simultaneously distributing the ingested glucose and fighting these bacteria. This triggers an inflammatory response that activates the immune systems of healthy individuals and has a protective effect, as doctors have proven for the first time. In overweight individuals, however, this inflammatory response fails so dramatically that it can lead to diabetes.

Why high-dose vitamin C kills cancer cells

Latest Science News -- ScienceDaily

Cancer researchers have homed in on how high-dose vitamin C kills cancer cells. Vitamin C breaks down to generate hydrogen peroxide, which can damage tissue and DNA. The new study shows that tumor cells with low levels of catalase enzyme activity are much less capable of removing hydrogen peroxide than normal cells, and are more susceptible to damage and death when they are exposed to high doses of vitamin C.

Barnstorming: Saving Santa Monica (KSMO)…

and Enhancing The Future of Aviation

As If We Didn’t Have Enough to Do, Another Critical Challenge Demands Our Full Attention

It has been a brutal few weeks… starting with the loss of our dear friend, Bob Hoover (and I will have much more to write about that… but I still need time to come to terms with my own issues about Bob’s passing), a number of tightly scheduled special events, the demanding but short time we had to prep for the Live Web production of Bob’s Memorial and then, the just concluded IITSEC event.

I’m beat… and so are the rest of the ANN team (who performed MAGNIFICENTLY these past few weeks…) but despite the fact that we’ve had little time to recover, we’re about to embark on our biggest projects EVER, efforts that may triple the scope of ANN… and yet, with all that to face, we see a need (more like a demand) to do something powerful and dramatic with an issue that has the potential to either, in part, restore aviation’s battered spirit or cast it further into the doldrums we’ve been facing for years. But… it’s going to take a maximum effort… the kind we’ve undertaken every time we’ve decided to deal with a powerful challenge. So... here we go again.

RANKED: The 10 busiest airports in the world

Atlanta Hartfield International Airport

The Airports Council International (ACI) released its 2015 World Airport Traffic Report on Friday. Once again, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) took with the top spot, with more than 101 million passengers in 2015. According to the ACI, this represents an increase in traffic of 5.5% over 2014.

The trade group attributes Atlanta's success to its strategic location, where it is within a two-hour flight of 80% of the US population. In addition, the ACI credits the growth of ATL's largest tenant — Delta Air Lines — for the airport's continued expansion in the traffic. Globally, the number of people traveling by air grew, in spite of weakening economic growth, at a rate of 6.4% in 2015 — the highest percentage growth since 2010.

According to the ACI, the number of airports around the world with more than 40 million annual passengers has more than doubled from 16 in 2005 to 37 in 2015. Much of this can be attributed to airlines shifting its capacity away from smaller airports in favor of bolstering its major hubs. The ACI cautions that such behavior could hinder the economic development of the communities in and around smaller airports.

As for this year, the organization believes overall global passenger traffic will continue to increase, but cautions that geopolitical unrest and protectionist economic policies could hinder that growth.

The trade group compiled its report using passenger traffic data from 2,300 airports from 160 countries around the world. Here are the 10 busiest airports in the world based on total passenger traffic:
