FAA Wants Comments on Pilot Certification Rule
by Robert P. Mark
The FAA is seeking comments on its proposal to upgrade Part 121 pilot certification experience requirements. The new standards would require airline first officers to hold an ATP certificate with a type rating, and airline captain applicants to have at least 1,000 hours of flight time in air carrier operations.
The FAA may also issue a restricted ATP to military pilots or some holders of aviation-related college degrees who have less than 1,500 hours total time. Multi-engine applicants will be expected to complete an ATP Certification Training program. The comment docket is open until April 29, 2012. April 23, 2012, 6:49 PM
