2013 World Aerobatic Championships Come To US
Chosen Site Is Jean, NV, Southwest Of Las Vegas
The 27th FAI World Aerobatic Championships will be coming to the United States in 2013. Members of the FAI Aerobatics Commission met in Krakow, Poland earlier this month and approved a proposal to hold the event in Jean, Nevada. The Jean Airport (0L7) is about 25 minutes southwest of the Las Vegas Strip, immediately adjacent to the Gold Strike Hotel and Casino.
The official event website says the championships will be organized by a dedicated corporate entity separate from FAI. The bid was organized by Michael Steveson, a long-time member of the International Aerobatic Club (IAC), manager of the 2011 USA Unlimited Aerobatic Team, and manager of the 2008 and 2010 USA Advanced Aerobatic Teams. The 2013 World Aerobatic Championships will be supported and staffed by veteran IAC members, led by a contest director to be chosen from candidates with experience in FAI and IAC regional and national contests.
On its website, Steveson's group adds that anyone wishing to be a part of this world-class event can reach organizers on the web using the FMI link
