The leadership of Southwest’s pilots union will decide early next week whether to ask its members to vote on a proposed new agreement with the airline that includes a lower cap on Southwest code-sharing and more scheduling flexibility for pilots. The airline and the negotiating committee for the Southwest Airlines Pilots’ Association (SWAPA) reached the agreement in principle earlier this week, and the union’s board will consider it Monday and Tuesday. In June, the pilots — for the first time in the union’s history — voted to reject a tentative agreement. The margin was slim, however, with 51% voting against it, so the changes could be enough to push the deal through. |
