Airline Training Bill Could Impact Corporate, Charter Operators
Aug 14, 2009
A bill passed by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and sent to full House of Representatives July 30, imposes radical new licensing requirements for commercial airline flightcrews. Although aimed at commercial airlines the legislation could have unintended consequences, affecting business and air charter operators as well.
The bill, H.R. 3371, would require pilots, copilots, flight engineers and navigators to hold ATP licenses, effectively raising the threshold for entry into FAR Part 121 cockpits from 250 hours of flight time to 1,500 hours and removing non-pilot-rated professional navigators and flight engineers from flightcrew duties.
