American Airlines Orders 47 B787's

American Airlines has ordered 47 Boeing 787s as replacements for its older widebody aircraft.

The deal includes 22 787-8s and 25 787-9s with deliveries from 2020 and 2023, respectively, the Fort Worth-based carrier says. It also includes 28 options.

The order is valued at $12 billion at list prices, says Boeing.

"This was a difficult decision between the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A350 and A330neo and we thank both manufacturers for their aggressive efforts to earn more of American’s business," says Robert Isom, president of American, in a statement. "In the end, our goal to simplify our fleet made the 787 a more compelling choice.”

Why high-dose vitamin C kills cancer cells

Latest Science News -- ScienceDaily

Cancer researchers have homed in on how high-dose vitamin C kills cancer cells. Vitamin C breaks down to generate hydrogen peroxide, which can damage tissue and DNA. The new study shows that tumor cells with low levels of catalase enzyme activity are much less capable of removing hydrogen peroxide than normal cells, and are more susceptible to damage and death when they are exposed to high doses of vitamin C.

Textron goes ahead with new Cessna jet, chooses engines

ORLANDO, Fla. (Reuters) - Cessna Aircraft Co said on Monday it is going ahead with a new large-cabin business jet, the Hemisphere, and will use an engine made by Safran of France that has suffered delays.

Cessna, a subsidiary of Textron Inc , said it chose Safran's Silvercrest engine to power the Hemisphere even though Dassault Aviation delayed first flight of its Falcon 5X jet, originally set for the summer of 2015, because of delays in getting Silvercrest engines.

"We're confident" the engine will meet specifications and be delivered on time, Textron Aviation Chief Executive Officer Scott Ernest said in a briefing at the National Business Aviation Association conference here.
